Welcome to YMCA Men's Shelter !

Mission Statement

The mission of the Men’s Shelter is to support and strengthen the community by addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness by providing immediate shelter and a safe environment to individuals seeking assistance while they resolve their housing crisis.

Vision

We protect basic human rights and meet human needs by providing safe shelter. We instill hope and provide support to our guests for their long-term success through empowerment, community engagement and teamwork.

Background

In March, as a result of the global pandemic and following recommendations of federal, state and local partners the Van Buren Center was De-Concentrated. YMCA Shelter Services opened three additional shelters in order to ensure 250 Single Adult Men and 60 Single Adult Women had a safe place to stay at night. Before COVID-19, The Van Buren Center sheltered all of these individuals under the same roof. Supportive Services for Single Adult Men experiencing a housing crisis have been expanded since March in order to meet the needs of the community.
