The Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA provides various sports opportunities to our community. All of the sports programming is co-recreational, which means that both boys and girls can participate. We offer two types of sports programming: Instructional and Leagues.

Instructional sports programming is designed to introduce children to a specific sport such as basketball or tumbling. Classes work to help children development the basic skills of that sport. These programs vary throughout the year and can be found on our Registration Website. If you have already participated in YMCA programming and do not have your online login information, please contact the Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA at 614-839-9622.

Sports leagues provide the opportunity for children to participate in games with others their own age. We offer different types of leagues throughout the year. The two main sports offered at the Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA are basketball and volleyball.

Inclement Weather Policy

We are very excited for the upcoming season. We can control the game times, but not the weather. Current forecasts have a wintry mix of rain and snow coming through Friday, January 12th. Below is a copy the 2018 Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA's sports program weather policy.

Delaware County has three levels of weather advisory.

  • Level 1: Advisory - Highways and roadways are snow/ice covered.
  • Level 2: Caution - Roadways have ice and blowing/drifting snow. Drive cautiously. Unnecessary travel is discouraged.
  • Level 3: Emergency - All roadways are CLOSED to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel.

The Liberty Twp/Powell sports weather policy is that all sports programming will continue as scheduled during a Level 1 weather advisory. We encourage everyone to use their best judgement and plan accordingly in this situation. Your safety should be your first concern.

If a level 2 or 3 advisory is issued, all sports programming will be cancelled. We understand that weather can change and often does. If a level 2 or 3 advisory is issued, programs will be cancelled for the remainder of that day. We will evaluate each day separately and will make the necessary cancellation notifications at least 30 minutes prior to the first game of the day. We reserve the right to cancel games in the middle of the day if conditions worsen.

There are several ways to determine whether or not sports programming has been cancelled at the Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA.

First, you can sign up for a new text alert for Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA sports. This can be accomplished by texting LIBERTYBASKETBALL to 84483 to receive Winter Basketball 2018 alerts from Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA. Or by using the following link: Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA Sports Text Alert Sign Up

Second, you can visit the YMCA Facebook Page.

Liberty Twp/Powell YMCA Facebook Page

Third, check your email. We will be emailing all coaches and participants in the event that a sports program has been cancelled due to weather.

Lastly, you may call the branch at (614)389-4566 during hours of operation to talk with a Welcome Desk Staff.

Monday - Thursday 5:30am-9:30pm

Friday 5:30am-9:00pm

Saturday 7:00am-7:00pm

Sunday 11:00am-7:00pm

Currently, we plan on concluding all games and tournaments by the first weekend in March. If we have to cancel games due to inclement weather, we will conclude the season the second weekend in March. If multiple cancellations occur during the season due to weather, we will not be able to extend the season beyond March 11th. If a cancellation occurs, we will attempt to reschedule as many games as possible. We cannot guarantee that all games cancelled due to weather will be rescheduled.

We appreciate your participation in one of our 2018 Winter Basketball Leagues and look forward to seeing you on the court this season.
