54-Mile Challenge: Be inspired by his March from Selma to Montgomery
This is an opportunity to commemorate the Reverend's legacy in the most YMCA way possible. This 6-week challenge kicks off on Friday, January 17th, and ends on Friday, February 28th.
This experience - walking, running or swimming a total of 54 miles - reflects MLK's march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965, a testament to his heart of service and commitment toward peacefully combating prejudice in our country.
You can join the trackable community challenge through the YMCA360 mobile app in “My Challenges.” You can also log your workouts within the app as you move toward the goal of 54 miles, which MLK marched in 5 days.

MLK Artistic Expression Contest (Open to public)
Art has an incredible way of connecting the world and allows us to express ourselves. The YMCA of Central Ohio invites area youth (4-18) to express and explore our theme, “Equality and Justice: Fulfilling the Promise of a United Nation” inspired by Dr. King’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech (1963) through the creation of art pieces that communicate their unique point of view.
Theme: "Equality and Justice: Fulfilling the Promise of a United Nation"
This theme emphasizes the aspiration for a society that embodies the principles of equality and justice, as envisioned by Martin Luther King Jr. It calls for action toward realizing the ideals of fairness, inclusivity, and unity in our communities.
This theme is both a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision and a timeless reminder of the ongoing work required to bring such a vision to fruition. It invites everyone to be part of the movement toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
We’re accepting entries until Monday, January 27th.
