Jan 23, 2022

The YMCA of Central Ohio has been awarded Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. (CARF) International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of a wide range of health and human services. The Y’s Housing and Shelter Services participated in an external review process by CARF, leading to the three-year accreditation which recognizes that the provider’s business and service practices meet international standards of quality.

“We are honored to have received this prestigious accreditation,” Senior Vice President of Housing Sue Darby said. “The YMCA Housing and Shelter staff works tirelessly to maintain a high quality of care to those experiencing housing insecurity in our community. The Y is committed to providing care, support and services to many who are in need.”

The YMCA of Central Ohio is committed to permanent supportive housing for adult men and women and serving individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Through community housing programs, the Y offers assistance to stabilize and maintain independent housing, while providing access to supportive services needed in order to achieve the highest possible standard of living.

In 2022, YMCA Van Buren Center served 1,140 women, 1,089 men and 781 children who were experiencing homelessness. Shelter services at the Y help provide a safe and healthy environment for women, families and men while providing the resources like case management, employment workshops, on-site medical care, educational linkage, meal service and housing search assistance.
