Virtual Leaders

The YMCA Virtual Leaders is an 8-Week Leadership Program designed for Teens in 6th-12th grades who want to improve themselves. Teens will use an online platform along with weekly Online Meetings to log leadership activities. Completing activities like Volunteering, Meetings, Challenges, Daily Check-ins, and Workouts will earn the students points. Accumulate enough points to earn a Leadership Certificate!

Weekly Meetings and Challenges

Weekly Meetings and Challenges are the core of the Virtual Leaders Program. Each week we will have a Live Online Meeting on a Leadership Topic that will introduce a Leadership Challenge. Meetings are a great time for the Teens to interact with other Teens and to learn valuable skills. Topics include: What is a Leader?, Leading through Tech, College and Career-Readiness Sessions, Financial Literacy, Goal Setting, and Mental/Physical Well-being. Guest Speakers and Interactive Activities will make the meeting fun and engaging.

The Weekly Challenge is a short project that will push the participants to take the learning from the meeting and apply it to their life. Teens will work solo or with other participants in the program to complete the Challenges.

Meetings will be held from 4:30-6pm on Thursdays starting February 11th. (either in-person or Zoom, depending on the location). A recorded version will be available for those who can not attend at the assigned time. Participants do not need to attend every meeting or complete every challenge to complete the program.

Daily Check-Ins

Participants will be asked to do an optional Daily Check-In in the online platform. There will be a Prompt each day that the Teens can choose to respond to. Daily Check-Ins can be a written response, poetry, art, photo, a video or any other medium the participant chooses. Teens will be able to see and interact with their peer’s check-ins as we create an online community of Leaders.

Optional Additional Activities

In addition to earning points through Meetings, Challenges and Check-Ins, Teens can earn additional points through Volunteering and Wellness Activities. Participants will set a goal for volunteer hours and wellness hours for the program. They will log their activity over the program to keep track of their goals.

The YMCA Virtual Leaders program allows the participant to choose how they learn and earn enough points to complete.
