About The Program
This balanced program supports academic achievement, fosters health and wellness, and instills positive social-emotional skills through:
Literacy & Reading
At the Y, we believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Books open entire worlds to kids, and literacy forms the foundation upon which all other learning depends.
Y-Kids Are Fit
Giving children the opportunity to participate in regular physical activity and to learn about healthy choices is what Y-Kids are Fit is all about. The focus of the program is on fitness, health and nutrition.
STEM
The YMCA is helping all children reach their full potential by supporting their unique youth development journeys. At more than 1,000 YMCA sites nationwide, youth are engaged in year-round STEM activities that nurture their curiosity, inspire creativity and teach them how to succeed.
Family Engagement
Our families are always welcome in our afterschool programs! Parents know their children better than anyone else and research shows that a parent’s involvement in their child’s education leads to better school outcomes.
Nutritional Education
Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) teaches children how to make healthy food choices and to enjoy physical activity, contributing to their social and physical development.
Arts
An after school program setting is the perfect place for youth to immerse themselves in their inner artist. The arts range from the visual arts (creating an art project using different material and mediums provided) to dramatic and/or musical performances presented to families during a Family Night.
Homework Help
Children in our programs receive 20 minutes of structured academic support Monday – Thursday. Children can either choose to read a book or work on a homework assignment. During this time our Y Club Teachers may choose to read a book aloud or actively assist children.
Service Learning
Every month at each one of our 50+ sites, children and staff connect with their community and give back.
Social & Emotional Skills
Social and emotional skills are the tools both children and adults use in social interactions and to manage every day emotional responses.
Character Development
The YMCA Movement defined character as the demonstration of four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. YMCA staff intentionally modeled these values with children, youth and adult members and volunteers - as they still do today.
Why Parents Love Y Club
Parents were asked to rank 8 program outcomes in terms of importance including making meaningful progress on homework and structured enrichment programming.
Success in School & Life
The Y's after school program provides youth with a safe place to go when school lets out. More importantly, it helps youth realize who they are and what they can achieve.
